Here in Minnesota, we just got the first flurries of snow, but I refuse to give in to winter….yet! So today I’m sharing some lovely photos from Developing Diamonds Photography of Melissa’s fall silk wedding flowers. Melissa’s teardrop cascading bouquet was a mix of Sunflowers, orange Dahlia, fall Mums in gold and orange, yellow mini Ranunculus, rust Garden Roses, burgundy Peonies, blue Astilbe and Ruscus.
Melissa wanted the bridesmaid bouquets to be a little different. Our original plan was to make them a little different in composition from the bridal bouquet. We used the same mix of flowers, but incorporated Eucalyptus instead of Ruscus and left out the blue Astilbe. The awesome part about silk flowers is that when Melissa saw the progress photos, she realized she did want a touch of blue in there, so we added in a few sprigs of Astilbe and she loved it. I know I talk about it often, but it’s pretty amazing to get a big say in the design of your flowers and to have the chance to make adjustments ahead of time is priceless!

Last week, I featured Sonya’s custom bridal bouquet recreation for her elopement, and it got me thinking! I always assumed that elopements were spur of the moment, which means most traditional wedding details got tossed as you sped off to Vegas. But what I’ve learned over the years is that many couples carefully plan their elopements to really unique locations. Today, I wanted to do a roundup of some elopement flowers that added a special touch to their special day.

The next elopement photo I want to share is of a bouquet that I went on to recreate several times for other brides who loved it. Katrina’s cascade bouquet with red center Sunflowers was a big hit! Read all about her Arizone elopement here.

This last feature isn’t technically an elopement, but it’s a unique situation that deserves a reshare! Amanda’s gothic Friday the 13th Minneapolis wedding also included a separate private vow exchange in South Dakota. Today’s custom bridal bouquet recreation in silk flowers is a unique style and shape. It incorporates Magnolia which is a less commonly used wedding flower as well as some gold Ruscus. It’s beautiful, timeless and unique, and I loved working to recreate this look! Ben ordered it for his wife and sent over some photos of the bouquet for me to work with. Let’s take a look!
This cascading style bouquet was a mix of white Garden, Cabbage and Spray Roses, white Magnolia, Eucalyptus Seeds, Green Hydrangea, white Lisianthus, Ruscus and gold painted Ruscus.
You can see the ribbon detail on the photo to the right. The bouquet was wrapped with a sheer white ribbon with a bow and some ribbon tails. It’s important to me to duplicate even those small touches whenever I can!
Ben sent me this photo of the bouquet being displayed in their home—always a treat for me to see!

A: I can’t really answer that without a detailed analysis of your finances, which isn’t really my business…
While that doesn’t seem exactly helpful or informative, I can tell you that what you don’t need to spend is more than you want to! Working with me involves accounting for your bridal party size, vision, style and yes, your budget. I don’t work in packages and frequently make suggestions of flower substitutions, size adjustments and whatever else we need to do to get you the arrangements you want to stay within your budget. Of course, we both need to be reasonable and realize I won’t be able to work with a couple who needs a large amount of arrangements for a very small budget. In those instances, I always suggest getting crafty and trying to DIY what you can or even purchasing bulk flowers from me that match the bouquets and finding some friends to help create your own centerpieces or decor items.
All of this budget talk is at the forefront of my mind because not too long ago, I read a few stories on Instagram where wedding budgets, and then more specifically wedding flower budgets, were discussed. I realized I was married 21 years ago and prices have gone up, but I almost fell out of my chair when I read what people are spending!
And here is the submissions for specifically wedding flowers!
Let’s just say, if you don’t have $10,000-20,000 to spend on your wedding flowers, you’re in the right place. And if you do, I’m happy for you because flowers make everything look prettier. Today’s custom bridal bouquet recreation in silk flowers feature is a really fun one to share because of the finished product. I mean, I guess they are all fun to share because of the finished product. But today’s is more about the display than usual! A number of bouquet recreations have gone on to be displayed in unique ways like this shadowbox example, this memento shadowbox, or flower and invitation keepsake display. But this is the first time where a wedding dress has been featured with a bouquet recreation! First let’s take a look at the custom bridal bouquet recreation alongside the original provided by photos by Ashley’s family friend, Britney.
Ashley’s bouquet was a dramatic cascading beauty with a mix of red Garden Roses, pink Spray Roses, a single lavender Rose and lots of Seeded and Silver Dollar Eucalyptus and Ruscus. It was a stunner!
She also commissioned me to recreate the groom’s boutonniere which was a simple arrangement of two white spray roses, seeds and matching greenery with a touch of white satin ribbon.
But here’s the cool part! When Ashley ordered the bouquet, they were working on a remodel of their house, including a custom display case for her wedding dress! They created a place at the top to display the bouquet along with her dress for a lovely vignette for their special pieces!

This summer, I’m going old school, back to the basics, starting with step 1…whatever you want to call it! I’ll be doing a series throughout the summer highlighting the various types of arrangements you may want to include on your wedding day and what better place to start than with the OG—the bridal bouquet!
While weddings for centuries have incorporated flowers and greenery, it wasn’t until the Victorian era that our modern idea of a bridal bouquet really became popular. So now that you have an idea of the history, let’s talk abut what your bridal bouquet can be. As a main piece of both apparel and decor for your wedding day, it will be seen in a lot of your photos and will be carried around quite a bit through the ceremony, reception, photos, and sometimes more. While it’s important to think about colors and flowers, it more important that it’s a reflection of you and your style! That means you get to design it however you want!!

I’ve included a variety of photos of bridal bouquets throughout this post so you can see different styles, shapes and color combinations as a reminder that it’s about what you like!
My website includes a page dedicated to Bridal Bouquets that highlights the two main types of bouquets: Round Bouquets and Cascading Bouquets. Within those two main categories there are some unique variations that give you even more options. Here are two examples of round bridal bouquets—a more traditional ball shape and a handtied bouquet.
You can see the similarity in shape, but the style offers a variation. The ball shaped bouquets is more compact with flowers closer together and not much veering outside the globe of the bouquet. In the bouquet on the right, the handtied style bridal bouquet, there is more movement to the bouquet. There are sprigs of flowers and greenery going beyond the ball shape and in fact this one has a more linear shape overall. Both look awesome but have their own look!
As with the round styles, cascading styles vary too! I coined the term modified cascade years ago because I was finding myself creating a lot of bridal bouquets that weren’t the classic teardrop shape. Some were asymmetrical, some were wild and big and some were close to the round handtied style but with lots of draping. Here are a few examples where the teardrop shape is quite obvious. It’s a classic look that will never go out of style!

Now let’s take a look at what I’ve labeled the modified cascade bridal bouquet.

These two bouquets are great example where the trailing pieces are either greenery or floral and they are both asymmetrically shaped. There is still a cascade to both bouquets, but they incorporate different elements to achieve the cascade and the flow off to the side rather than straight down the front of the bouquet.

I’ve been waiting to share these flowers with you since Ashleigh’s February wedding! I absolutely loved her design choices and how the bouquets came together, so when she sent me the photos from her big day, I was so excited to finally be able to share them!! Ashleigh’s color palette was pomegranate/dark berry and navy, and she wanted to bring in some mauve and greenery for a really rich look that wasn’t a traditional pink bouquet. Let’s take a look at these photos from her photographer: Daniel Sexton Photography.
Here’s our beautiful bride Ashleigh! Her bouquet was a large, loose modified cascade style bridal bouquet with mix of blush Seedum, berry Dahlias, berry mini Mums, navy mini Ranunculus, dusty pink Zinnia, a mix berry Roses and Peonies, peach Cabbage Roses, Willow, Seeded and Silver Dollar Eucalyptus. It had color and texture to keep your eye moving, but wasn’t over the top!
The groom’s boutonniere was a berry Rose, Seedum, navy mini Ranunculus and matching greenery. The bridesmaid bouquets were loose handtied style with the same mix of flowers as the bridal bouquet just smaller. While they were the same modified cascade shape, they did incorporate the Willow greenery which gave them some trailing pieces which is not as common for bridesmaid bouquets. I loved that they were different in that way!

My bouquet, the bridesmaid bouquets, and all the boutonnieres and corsages were absolutely gorgeous and unique and I’m so happy I chose silk flowers so I can hold onto them as a keepsake as well.”
Here’s a look at one of the groomsmen bouts with a berry Dahlia and one of the mother’s wrist corsages that had a berry rose with accents. I loved that not everyone had the same main flower, but they all incorporated the same main color.

In May, I had the honor of celebrating and honoring my parents for their 50th anniversary! We helped put together a wonderful party full of people they love and fun mementos from their wedding day and their 50 years of marriage. I worked with my mom to create custom centerpieces that were bright and happy for this spring celebration. But what she didn’t know was that I planned to recreate her bridal bouquet and surprise her during a family dinner. Not only was it a great piece to display at their party, but it became a meaningful keepsake to display in their home.
This groovy 70’s bouquet was a mix of white Daisies, yellow Tea Roses, and Asparagus Fern in a cascading style bouquet.
For the centerpieces, we were trying to keep things budget friendly, so I purchased some bushes that had a mix of colors, flowers and greenery. Everything got trimmed down and constructed into centerpieces in white geometric vases.

I love the classic nature of today’s wedding reveal! Lindsey had a clear vision for her bridal bouquet that included stunning Galaxy Orchids. If you have never seen them, they are blue and purple orchids that are pretty magical looking. Let’s take a look at LIndsey’s classic church wedding, featuring her custom silk wedding flowers. The photographs are provided by Bellagala Photography.
Here is our picture perfect couple! Lindsey’s bouquet was a teardrop cascade style with a mix of white Garden Roses, purple Picasso Calla Lilies and those eye catching blue and purple Galaxy Orchids. The bouquet was wrapped with a classic white satin ribbon.
Lindsey ordered clutch size bridesmaid bouquets that incorporated the same mix of flowers but in a handtied style.

Corbin found me on his hunt for a special anniversary gift for his wife. He shared with me that they had moved recently and had to decide about keeping her “old, dried up bridal bouquet.” They ultimately decided to say goodbye to it, but his wife kept a bouquet of silk flowers from her friend’s wedding. That gave Corbin the idea to have her bouquet recreated in silk flowers. And that’s how he found me! He sent me photos of her bouquet, and I loved how bright and happy and full of texture her bouquet was. Let’s take a look at the recreation alongside the original, featured in these photos by MLE Photo Art by Emily Wysocki.
The original bouquet was a large, loose handtied style bouquet with some draping greenery. It consisted of peach Roses, cream Cabbage Roses, white Garden Roses, blue Delphinium, pink Delphinium, yellow Freesia, Queen Anne’s Lace, Ruscus, Sword Eucalyptus, Gunni Eucalyptus and small filler greens.

Last week, the featured silk wedding flowers showed a very similar color scheme as today’s wedding with bride Kelsey. But you can see that despite similar colors, these custom silk wedding flower arrangements are a totally different vibe! Not only did we deepen up the pinks to include a dusty rose pink, but there are touches of beige and some dustier greenery. Thanks to these photos by Danielle Christensen Photography, we are going to get a good look at Kelsey’s custom silk bridal bouquet in dusty pink, blush and white.
Here’s our awesome couple and with attire like theirs, I only want complement and not take away. Kelsey’s teardrop cascade style bouquet was a mix of white Roses, dusty pink Roses, dusty pink Peonies, beige Baby's Breath, white Seeds, Seeded Eucalyptus and some smaller greens mixed in.
In this close up shot to the left, you can see the beautiful texture of her dress which blended perfectly with the texture in her bouquet. We kept the groom’s boutonniere simple with a dusty pink Rose, beige Baby’s Breath and some greenery.
The bridesmaids carried clutch style bouquet with a few white roses, a dusty pink Rose, a dusty pink Peony, Seeds, beige Baby's Breath and Seeded Eucalyptus. They were a perfect match to the bridal bouquet without being overpowering. Plus they looked great up against those stunning pale pink dresses!
Kelsey wanted to add a swag for her sweetheart table which was a nice touch to tie all the floral arrangements together from the ceremony to the reception. This low swag provided a background for their Mr. & Mrs. signs and brought some color to their stunning white set up.

Today’s wedding features something I’d never dreamed I’d see incorporated into a wedding, but then again, why not? People who love their dogs and cats include them, and I’ve made tiny silk flower arrangements for both. But today, I get to show you the flowers I created for Kaitlyn’s Harry Potter x Lord of the Rings Wedding that featured an OWL! There are also a few other birds that make an appearance, so don’t skip any of these photos from TMT Weddings!
Here’s our awesome couple! You may recognize Kaitlyn’s bouquet from Alex’s Harry Potter Themed Custom Silk Wedding Flowers I featured last year. Kaitlyn saw those flowers and loved them, so we tailored a few things to fit her Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings theme and brought her vision to life! Her modified cascade style bridal bouquet included navy Roses, silver Dusty Miller, burgundy Peonies, gold Mimosa, Olive greens and some added mixed greens for filler. What I didn’t anticipate was the magic that Kaitlyn added to it!
The bridesmaids carried round hand tied style bouquets with a Peony, gold Mimosa, navy Roses, Dusty Miller and Olive greenery. A perfect match to the bridal bouquet!
They didn’t make it in these photos, but the groomsmen had small boutonnieres with a mix of the colors in silver, elvish looking boutonniere holders. I thought that was such a unique idea!
“I had a Harry Potter/lord of the rings wedding. She did an amazing job at every little detail I asked for for my bouquets for my girls and for mine and the boys boutonnières. She kept me updated on the progress of my flowers and while I waited to receive them she responded timely to every email and/question I had for her. Today we are revisiting a moment in time that could included great joy when things were just…hard! I love that Rachel has this moment to look back on with fondness, no matter what else was going on in the world! One thing I didn’t talk about in my original post was what was in the arrangements. As you scroll down to see them, you’ll see the bouquets made up of Hydrangea, Dahlia, Tulips, Ruscus, and plum Astilbe in the bridesmaid bouquets. The bridal bouquet was a modified cascade style with those flowers plus Roses, Ranunculus, Seedum and Fern. I love that she chose a bouquet that was quite a bit different than the bridesmaids. There is nothing sweeter than getting to see my flowers out in “the wild.” I spend time chatting and designing with each client and then I send their silk wedding flowers off to their Happily Ever After. Today’s wedding is a really pretty combination of blush, dusty pink, blue and white silk wedding flowers. As you’ll see from the photos that bride Emily sent me, this was a soft romantic color palette that worked great for her outdoor wedding. Let’s take a look at the photos she sent me from her amazing photographer Brandi Doleman.
Emily’s bouquet was a unique style in that we slightly modified a modified cascade style. She didn’t quite want a teardrop shape, but not as round as a modified cascade. Her bouquet was composed of white, nude, and dusty pink Roses, blush pink Peonies, blue Astilbe and Thistle, Stephanotis, Orchids, white Heather, beige Baby’s Breath, Willow and Eucalyptus. Here bridesmaids were wearing a variety of these colors and she wanted to include them in her bouquet. It tied everything together so nicely!
The bridesmaids carried clutch style bouquet with the same mix of the bridal flowers. One of the bouquets was actually for an attendant on the groom’s side, so we included a bit more of the blue accents in her bouquet to match the guys more closely. It was an easy tweak to the design so that it set it apart but still matched with the bridesmaids.

She is super easy to talk to and very accommodating if you have a particular idea in mind! The wedding flowers were everything I would’ve dreamed of and were just absolutely perfect! This last year, I had the fun task of working Orange and Terra Cotta into a variety of weddings. I absolutely loved the creativity that my bride’s brought with their ideas. And I’m excited to share Ashley’s burnt orange, terra cotta, nude, white and beige silk wedding flowers. Ashley’s bouquet was a teardrop cascade style with a mix of beige baby's breath, terra cotta, rust and nude Roses, white Bamboo, mini pampas and larger pampas. If you look in the photo above, it was a perfect accent to both her wedding dress and her groom’s unique sport coat. Don’t you love the beige and plaid detail?
Let’s talk for a minute about Pampas grass. It’s a super popular and lovely addition to wedding florals, but it sheds like crazy! Unless you want to have it all over your dress, your groom’s tux or any other fabric in your general vicinity, faux Pampas is a great alternative. There is no allergy risk, no shedding and it’s not as delicate as the real stuff.

Have you considered a themed wedding? Today’s custom silk wedding flowers are a great example of incorporating a theme, without going overboard. Lauren’s red, black and gold wedding was set at a Renaissance Fair, and I can’t wait for you to see it! We really wanted to complement her wedding dress and her groom’s attire. Let’s take a look at some photos from Kacy Hughes Photography from Lauren’s big day!!
Lauren’s wedding gown was a show stopper! With the red satin and gold overlay, it was the perfect look for Renaissance royalty! We wanted to incorporate her three wedding colors into the bouquet, with the red and gold being prominently featured. Her teardrop cascade bouquet featured red Garden Roses and Dahlia, burgundy Calla Lilies, black Skimmia Berries, gold Ruscus and black Feathers.
