Backpacking with a Silk Bridal Bouquet- Part 1

You may remember this wedding I did a few months ago for a bride and her crew that were hiking into the Northwoods of Minnesota for their wedding. I thought that was such an interesting concept and was surprised again to book a job for a silk bridal bouquet and boutonniere that was also going to be backpacking to their ceremony site for an elopement. This time it was in Rocky Mountain National Park. Ashlynn wanted her bouquet to be lush and filled with color and texture for a wildflower look. We talked through her ideas, looked at inspiration photos and came up with a pretty long list of things to include. You can see from my photos that every square inch of this bouquet had something interesting in it!

Fern, Thistle, Ranunculus, Forget-Me-Nots, Roses, Daisies, Mini Daisies, Larkspur, Queen Anne’s Lace, Red berries, Columnea, Lavender Seeds, mixed Greens and the kitchen sink! Can’t you just imagine this strapped to a backpack on its way to a mountain top ceremony?

The groom’s boutonniere was a toast colored Rose bud with mini Daisies, a touch of Fern and greens and finished off with twine for a rustic look. Perfect for the great outdoors! Ashlynn wanted her bouquet wrapped in lace which I think matched really well to all the texture in her bouquet.

Blending Themes Within a Wedding- Rustic and Tropical Silk Wedding Flowers

After 16 years of marriage, I can say with certainty that marriage takes a lot of blending of ideas, plans, and opinions. Sometimes we don’t realize that it actually starts long before you say, “I do.” So when you sit down together to talk about the vision for your wedding day, don’t be surprised if you both have different ideas. But don’t panic! Blending themes within a wedding isn’t as hard as it sounds! These silk wedding flowers are a great example of taking two different ideas and incorporating them into custom arrangements that fit the bride and groom.

Josie wanted a mix of Lilies and Calla Lilies and had some bright and fun colors as well. Her teal, orange and purple theme colors would be used in their centerpieces and she wanted to incorporate them in her ceremony flowers as well. The bridal bouquet was a mix of white Garden Lilies, ivory Calla Lilies, orange and purple Dendrobium Orchids and teal mini Phalaenopsis orchids. Her summer-y bouquet was a combination of all the inspiration photos she sent me. Though this bouquet looks quite tropical, Josie wanted to include a rustic element. Twine is a great way to accent any bouquet that you want to look a little more organic and rustic.

For the bridesmaid bouquets, we used the same variety of flowers, but in a handtied style. With their bouquets, the twine was a little more front and center, but still kept everything on theme.

For the toss bouquet, I scaled everything back, including using a different orange flower that fit the overall size of the bouquet much better.

The pin on corsages were all similar, with subtle differences to set apart the mothers, grandmothers and attendants. Again, the twine was a fun way to keep these bright and happy corsages a little more earthy.

Josie and her groom did a great job personalizing their flowers. One way they did this was to send me spent shotgun shells and turkey feathers for their boutonnieres. These accessories were a fun way to give a nod to the family’s hunting hobby. Even the littlest bridal party member wasn’t left out. The ring bearer boutonniere might have been too small for a shotgun shell, but it wasn’t too small for a turkey feather!

Elopement Bridal Bouquet in Silk Wedding Flowers

Elopements are making a come back! Here’s another custom silk bridal bouquet for an elopement. Amanda wanted to incorporate some of her favorite flowers and colors in a beautiful modified cascade style bouquet for her elopement this fall that will take place in a Pecan Grove. How romantic right?? Her favorite flower is the Peony (and mine too!) and she also wanted to feature the color pink and a hint of yellow. I sent her a few emails with a variety of options and we settled on the elements you’ll see below: bright pink Peonies, blush pink Peonies, pink and white Magnolia, white Spray Roses, bright pink Wild Roses, Forsythia and yellow Queen Anne’s Lace. She wanted her bouquet to have some rustic charm, so I added a burlap ribbon to the handle and a delicate ivory lace wrap to finish it off.

For the groom’s boutonniere, I used one Magnolia blossom, one Forsythia flower and a small Wild Rose bud. A little bit of burlap and it was a perfect match!

Wild Wedding Flowers Part I: Incorporating Lots of Greenery

Callie’s custom silk wedding flowers have an element of wildness that I love! She requested lots of greenery, a handful of flowers and liked the idea of bouquets with a looser composition. The modified cascade was a perfect fit for her bridal bouquet.

This custom silk bridal bouquet consists of Dahlia, Ranunculus, white Heather, blue Thistle, seeded Eucalyptus and Silver Dollar Eucalyptus. We started out with the stems completely wrapped but after a second look Callie wanted some of the stems showing. Take a look at the finished product!

For the bridesmaids, we scaled back the size, adjusted the shape so it wasn’t quite as cascading, and took out the Thistle. We left that as a special feature in the bridal bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere.

Callie needed some matching boutonnieres and corsages for the bridal party and parents.

This cute little hair piece was a mix of greenery, blue seeds, and ranunculus.

Elopement Bridal Bouquet with Sunflowers and Succulents

Let’s talk about elopements! The movies show it as a spur-of-the-moment decision followed by a trot to the courthouse and saying your “I do’s” in front of a judge in your best whatever you’re wearing. But does it have to be that? Can you elope with forethought? The answer is yes! Take a look at this gorgeous cascading bridal bouquet in silk flowers I made for a bride who will be eloping in a few months.

This out of state elopement, might not be 100% spontaneous, but when you want a custom bridal bouquet in silk flowers to carry on your big day, does it really matter? This bright and summer-y bouquet consisted of Sunflowers, Baby’s breath, Succulents, Silver Dollar Eucalytpus, and seeded Eucalyptus. She wanted a rustic accent, so I added a woven burlap ribbon to the handle and criss-crossed some thin white satin ribbon with a cute little bow for some charm.

Burgundy and Blush Silk Wedding Flowers

Burgundy and Blush might have been someone’s million dollar idea this year. Even though I don’t know who decided it would be a hot color combo for bridal bouquets this year, I do know that I’ve loved all the different designs that have come out of it for silk wedding flowers here in my corner of Minnesota.

Anna wanted mostly the wine/burgundy in her bouquets with just a hint of blush. Her bridal bouquet was the modified cascade style draping, texture, and saturated colors. Basically she had a dreamy, romantic bridal bouquet with Dahlia, Calla Lilies, Cherry Blossom, Ranunculus, Babys’ Breath, and Eucalyptus. All the bouquets were finished up with a lovely burlap with lace overlay. It added to the rustic charm that Anna was hoping for.

The bridesmaids carried similar style bouquets with some slight changes that would allow the bridal bouquet to stand out a little more. The toss bouquet had the same variety of flowers as the bridal bouquet, just smaller and more throwable…throwier…aerodynamic!

Flower Backdrops For Minneapolis Wedding Ceremonies

This past fall I got an email from Katy, who I created these flowers for. She put me in touch with her sister, Ali, who was now planning her own wedding. Ali already had her flowers figured out but had her heart set on a couple of flower backdrops for an altar arrangement during her wedding ceremony and a secondary site during the reception. As we discussed and planned over email, Ali was able to send me a few inspiration photos to give me some ideas of what she liked.  Her colors were pastel shades of pink and purple with white and greenery. Ali also sent me photos of the set up at the church they would be getting married in and exact measurements to make sure we filled the space. Standing at 8 feet tall and 5 feet wide, this beauty is going to make quite the statement. I used a  variety of flowers and greens to make the backdrop both interesting and delicate. It also made it challenging to find a place open enough to photograph this sizable altar arrangement. And in case you were wondering, yes, those are chopsticks wedging the branch into my barn door track. A girl's gotta do...
