Red, Black and Gold Renaissance Silk Wedding Flowers - Reveal and Review

Lauren’s red, black and gold wedding was set at a Renaissance Fair, and I can’t wait for you to see it! We really wanted to complement her wedding dress and her groom’s attire. Lauren’s wedding gown was a show stopper! With the red satin and gold overlay, it was the perfect look for Renaissance royalty! We wanted to incorporate her three wedding colors into the bouquet, with the red and gold being prominently featured. Her teardrop cascade bouquet featured red Garden Roses and Dahlia, burgundy Calla Lilies, black Skimmia Berries, gold Ruscus and black Feathers.

The groom’s boutonniere was a red Garden Rose, black Skimmia Berries, gold Ruscus and black Feathers.

Black, Red and Burgundy Silk Wedding Flowers - Reveal and Review

Michelle’s black, red and burgundy silk wedding flowers were show stoppers. This unique color combination is not one I had worked before and I was super excited because she also wanted some elements that would definitely turn up the glam on her arrangements. Michelle’s teardrop cascading silk bridal bouquet was a mix of red and black Garden Roses, dark burgundy Calla Lilies, black Skimmia Berries and a touch of greenery. To crank up the style we added in skinny black feathers and a large black rhinestone broach.

The bridesmaids carried round handtied bouquets with the same mix of flowers and an asymmetrical accent of the skinny black feathers.

Here’s all the handsome men with their boutonnieres. The groom’s boutonniere was a red Spray Rose, Skimmia and feathers with a touch of greenery. We simplified the groomsmen to be just the dark burgundy Calla Lily and some feathers. All bouquets and boutonnieres were finished off with a wine red satin ribbon.

If I had any changes or requests, she did everything to accommodate them. They look amazing and were very durable. Michelle wanted to incorporate matching flowers into her centerpieces. She already had lanterns, so I designed these small clusters of a red and a black Garden Rose with a little bit of greenery to tie on with matching ribbon.

She wanted a little something more for the head table, so I suggested using a garland with black and red roses dispersed along the length of the garland. It was a great way to add floral arrangements without blocking anyone’s view of the happy couple and the bridal party.

Bling Is The Thing: Part 2 | Designer Silk Wedding Flowers

Heather had done quite a bit of research in deciding what she wanted her wedding flowers to look like.  But unlike most brides, she also put a lot of thought into the boutonnieres and corsages.  She sent me pictures of some amazing details she wanted to incorporate and then she put me up to the task of tailoring them to her flowers, colors and needs.

Heather did a great job of choosing designs that were thoughtful, beautiful, and carried the theme throughout the arrangements.  Her love of bling was used tastefully and uniquely--two very important things in wedding flowers.  Thanks Heather for trusting me to bring your vision to life and I wish you all the best!

Bling Is The Thing: Part 1 | Designer Silk Wedding Flowers

I knew when Heather and I met that I was going to really enjoy working with her.  We had the same ideas about a lot of things and I loved that she wanted her bouquet to be unique and multidimensional.  We were trying to really nail down the shape of the bouquet when Heather said it best, "I want it to be like a fountain, kind of pouring out over my hands."  What a visual!

Her lavender and white color scheme was fun to work with as we incorporated some flowers that held special meaning for her and that she loved the shape of.  Peonies and Freesia in white, and Wisteria, Hydrangea, and Sweet Pea in varying shades of Lavender.

The Wisteria were perfect for achieving the fountain look spraying out of the bouquet and we added in some feathers for softness and as a continuation of the shape.  But where Heather's bouquet really stood out from the pack was in the embellishments.  See if you get where I'm going with this.

Heather's vision for the details was amazing.  We wrapped the handle in lavender satin ribbon with a lace overlay, criss-crossed sheer lavender ribbon over and pearl pins at the intersection and then finished it off with bands of rhinestones at the top and bottom.  Stunning!

Photo Finish: Vintage Wedding Flowers

I'm pretty sure there's no better feeling than seeing my work "in action," so to speak. These shots, provided by their photographer, are some of the best shots I have received from brides I've worked with. I literally almost fell off my couch when I saw this first one.







I met with Amy and Nathan at a local Caribou for a chat about how to get a vintage look with the flowers. Their ceremony was being held at Minnesota's Varsity Theater and they wanted every detail to reflect their theme. They also were planning on using Peacock feathers for boutonnières and wanted them also to be in the bouquets. We worked together to find the perfect colors and flowers to flow with the atmosphere of their site and tie in with the feathers. What we came up with turned out wonderfully which is why I am happily gazing at these pictures -- what a picture-perfect couple. I can't help but feel like I'm looking back in time with the finger curls in Amy's hair and Nathan's dapper pin-stripes.









The great thing about this job was that Amy and I had the chance to work closely to figure out how to get everything to come together. We reworked the design until we found a way for the feathers to show their face in just the right way. That's one of the benefits of using silk flowers, we had the chance to collaborate together to find perfection.
