Custom Cake Flowers Reveal

Back in December, I shared a few photos with you of Brianna’s custom silk wedding cake flowers. These cute little clusters of Sunflowers, Roses, Baby’s Breath and greenery were nice little accents for her wedding cake. I was thrilled when Brianna sent me some photos from her wedding day of her amazing cake!

Her amazing wedding cake was created by Modern Pastry Shop in Hartford, Connecticut. (Anyone else automatically think of Gilmore Girls when they hear anything about Hartford??). Spring Colors in Wildflower Silk Bridal Bouquet

I’m excited to share with you a truly custom silk bridal bouquet! Generally when bride’s reach out to me, they have a good idea of what they would like based on a few inspiration photos. From there, we talk about what aspects they love, what colors they want to include and they usually do some combining of those ideas and photos to customize the bouquets. In Sara’s case, she sent me some photos but also said that she was “open to suggestion.” I decided to take a risk and come up with a design from scratch. I knew that she wanted a wildflower look with pops of orange, blue, purple, yellow and some greenery. I gathered up some sample stems I had on hand and sent a photo to get her thoughts. Sara gave me the same freedom with the boutonnieres and these were super fun. I used the same mix of flowers and colors but varied the mix and greenery to give each guy a custom look.

I’d never ask anyone to take a gamble on their wedding flowers, but there’s no rule about sticking to a specific look or color scheme. Silk Flowers For Your Wedding Cake

Over the years, I’ve had potential clients looking for budget friendly options to complement their fresh floral decor. I’ve done a variety of weddings where I only did the boutonnieres and corsages, small arrangements to attach to lanterns for centerpieces, a custom floral backdrop, or a silk floral headpiece with pheasant feathers. Not to be left out, cake flowers recently joined that list of fun singleton projects for me.

Brianna sent me some inspiration photos for cake flowers in custom silk wedding flowers and I made some suggestions for matching her sunflower theme. Here’s what I came up with!

Her topper was a mix of a larger sunflower, red Spray Roses, burgundy Baby’s Breath and mixed greenery. I also made two matching smaller clusters to be placed on the layers of her cake. I switched to mini sunflowers for scale and to off set the shape for an asymmetrical look.

Wedding Bouquet Preservation Fail

Sadly, I receive emails like this fairly often, “Our fridge broke when we were on our honeymoon and my wife's wedding bouquet died! She was hoping to have it preserved.” Sometimes it’s a fridge mishap or the preservation process doesn’t end up looking as beautiful as anticipated. If you’re in that boat, I can help!

This elegant bouquet was made up of the elegant Gardenia and some greens. Simple and gorgeous!
